We came to Europe for one year so that my 8 year-old son son could learn French.
I bought AXA travel insurance for the year, and quite frankly… it SUCKS!
After 6 months in France I discovered a pain in my leg while walking. It turned out that I had a complete blockage in an artery in my stomach, that affected my right leg. You would think that this is an emergency to get fixed right???
But before I get into that, let’s first look at AXA’s advertising:
Yep – AXA advertises that it covers examinations, consultations, hospitalizations, medical supplies etc… sounds wonderful… except for the harsh reality. Here is the actual email we received from AXA travel insurance:
Dear Sir,
We’re sorry for the delay. The verification by our doctor can take some time.
We’ve decided to not cover the costs of surgery. The reason is because it’s planned and not that urgent to not do it in your country of living. The treatment took too long to not come back to your country of living.
We’d like to remind that the policy covers costs of treatment in the cases of sudden illness or unlucky accidents until you can continue your journey or come back to your country of living.
Best Regards,

Axa Assistance”
This was not planned at all! It happened 6 months after I arrived in Europe. Basically, AXA wants me to travel back to my home country to get the surgery done? REALLY! I am looking after my 8 year old son on my own. How the heck am I going to get back to my home country, when my son is in school. He would miss a month of the curriculum. On top of that I would further risk the problem of a blockage of my arteries on the plane and be stuck in Covid quarantine, lengthening the risk of a major catastrophe.
AXA = Useless, Money-Hungry, Liars, who will do anything to sell you travel insurance.
